I have taken a keen interest in fish and fishing for as long as I can remember. According to my mother, I was able to recognise many of the species in a fish ID book at the age of two. I started out fishing the beaches around Lennox Head mainly catching Bream, Whiting and the odd Flathead. As I got older, I ventured around the rocks and began chasing Tailor, then Jewfish and land base game species like Longtail Tuna. I still enjoy fishing for any species and also like to show anyone who is willing how fishing can be such a great passtime
My love of fishing and the marine environment has led me to become a successful Rock & Beach angler. For me fishing is all about the challenge of catching the fish I am targeting. I don't use light line for the sake of prelonging the fight and I don't go out to catch fish with the intention of releasing them for sport. I like to make sure that all the fish I keep are used and not wasted and unwanted bycatch is always released in the best possible condition.
I believe that fishing is a great sport for kids to be involved in as it teaches them many valuable life skills. It also provides a never ending source of entertainment which will last a life time.
Most fishing charters operate with a boat, fishing deep offshore reefs. This gives you a great day out (if you don't get sea sick) and a feed of fish but that’s where it ends. With my charters I will aim to pass on as much information as I can and encourage you to ask as many questions as you like. I will aim to find out what each group or individual is hoping to achieve and organise the most suitable time and location.
What I am offering is something similar to a Tennis lesson for example as fishing is like any other sport and you have to start with learning the basics. For a beginner I would usually start on the beach where it is easier to learn things like casting and basic beach fishing rigs. We would also look at how to recognise where fish are likely to be on the beach. It is also important to know what gear you will need and don’t need. By travelling light you are able to move around with relative ease and are much more likely to find the fish.
For more advanced anglers a charter would usually involve targeting a particular species that they would like to catch. This may be from the beach or rocks and the location would be chosen depending on the conditions at hand and also the experience and fitness of the customer. With rock fishing, safety also becomes a very important factor and we would look at how to recognise safe places to fish in different conditions.
Learning to fish from the beaches and rocks gives you the ability to go fishing any time you have a few spare hours. By learning the basic principles of casting, rigging and how to find fish, you can expect to be taking home a feed on a regular basis. As with tennis, you won’t be going to Wimbledon after one lesson, however your road to success will certainly be accelerated.
All fishing gear is provided, if there is anything that you will need I will let you know the day before the charter.
Transport is providedand I can pick you up and drop you off. There would often be a change of location during the charter so it is easier to travel in one car.
I will have a camera on all charters so I canprovide you with a digital copy of any photostaken during the day.
Your charter will be organised to suit your level of experience so the more information you can give me about what you hope to achieve the better I will be able to help you.

Friday 9 December
Fished an afternoon/night session off the rocks for 3 bream, 1 whiting and 3 school jew to about 3kg. There were a couple of other similar size jew lost on the rocks as well.
This month the beaches have produced whiting , dart, bream, tarwhine and one lone tailor.
This current southerly has brought in clean warm water so i would expect whiting and possibly tailor to increase in numers on the beaches when the swell settles down.
